The United States Marine Corps just shared video footage of an brutal day of fighting in Kajaki, Afghanistan, the district in northern Helmand province. This area has been the site of some of the Corps’ most violent and intense fighting as of late.
This five-minute video was posted to YouTube, showing Marines with 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, out of Camp Lejeune, N.C. taking fire at Patrol Base Georgetown. The clip shows the Marines engaging insurgent fighters, who are armed with AK47s, sniper rifles and 30mm indirect fire. Towards the end of the video, the cameraman catches one of the Marines being helped after he was wounded by an exploding artillery shell.
Patrol Base Georgetown is on the far edge of the Corps’ area of operations, and faces threats that are more common in eastern Afghanistan.
