Photo Friday: “A Piece of Iwo”

James Wheeler, an Iwo Jima veteran, displays a vile filled with sand from Iwo Jima, Japan, where he and thousands of Marines and sailors preserved their place in history. The Falls Church, Va., resident attended the 65th anniversary wreath laying ceremony, Feb. 23, 2010, in remembrance of the historic World War II flag-raisings on Mount Suribachi, Japan at the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Va. The ceremony honored the sacrifices of the Marines and sailors who fought the epic battle and the fallen Marines of all wars, to whom the memorial is dedicated.
