We are starting a new feature on our blog, “Photo Friday.” Every Friday we will be highlighting a powerful and moving photograph from around our military services. This week we are starting off by featuring a photo from my personal collection. This photo of my machine gun squad was taken during our deployment to Iraq in 2003. Our unit, Echo Company 2nd Battalion 25th Marines, was sent into the city of An Nasiriyah to relieve the Marines that were holding the two bridges over the Euphrates. We did a relief in-place so those Marines could continue on the push to Baghdad. The first day we were there found an Iraqi flag in an abandoned court house near the bridges.
Pictured left to right are, Sgt. Zimmerman, Cpl. Manney, Lcpl. Smith, Cpl. Breslin, Lcpl. Verga and Cpl. Murray. On a side note, I still have this flag safely tucked away in my souvenir trunk at home. Semper Fi Warriors.
